Thomas Kersey Profile

I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist practicing in Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire. I am an advanced cataract surgeon and one of the few surgeons in the UK who is dual fellowship trained in both Glaucoma and Oculoplastic Surgery. I take pride in providing excellent medical and surgical care across all aspects of Ophthalmology.
 

The vast majority of my clients come via personal recommendation.

After graduating from St Bartholomews and the Royal London School of Medicine, I taught Anatomy at Imperial College, London.  My specialist ophthalmology training took place across Oxford and the Westcountry.  

I am the lead Glaucoma Consultant at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey , which has consistently scored very well with CQC reports and has won Trust of the Year 2013 (Dr Foster Awards) as well as receiving an outstanding accreditation by the Care Quality Commission and winner of the Achievement in Healthcare Awards 2015.  

l helped establish Cataract Simulation Training (CST) across the Kent, Surrey, Sussex Deanery. I have introduced and developed a training program using the state of the art virtual reality simulator (EyeSi VR magic) and have built and developed home simulation kits for training junior doctors. My role has included training of junior eye surgeons many of whom are now consultants across the UK, as well as running national and international surgical workshops. My aim is to create the best cataract surgeons of the next generation.  With over 25 published scientific articles, attending and presenting at national and international meetings, I have maintained a strong and active interest in scientific research and technology.

Beyond my practice, the majority of time is spent with my family, enjoying an active outdoor life. I live in Surrey with my wife Sonia, who is a General & Aesthetic Practitioner and our three children. I am a keen water sportsman, having a passion for sailing, windsurfing and country sports including fly fishing. I enjoy running marathons and have completed the 125 mile kayak marathon from Devizes to Westminster. I take pride in restoring classic cars and am currently working with my son on a Porsche 356 build from a 1200 VW beetle. As a family we enjoy going to the theatre and playing music.
